Project
Sheffield Station
Details

The project, with a value of £5.7m, involved the extension and refurbishment of the existing Grade II Listed building. The main works being the extension, refurbishment and re-design of the concourse to encompass the full extent of the existing porte cochere.

The project was carried out while the station was in full operational use, and delivered an extended concourse with new staff facilities including station administration suite with public facilities including toilets, left luggage and information point. A new station wide customer information system (CIS) was also installed.

The design approach was to make all new elements as simple as possible, using a limited palette of materials including glass, stainless steel and tiles, all with a light monochromatic colour scheme to maximise a sense of light and space.

Retail space and offices were relocated away from the front elevation and new individually designed retail units ‘planted’ within the extended concourse. This allowed the 15 arches on the front elevation to be fully open. They were then infilled with frameless structural glass to maintain their transparency.
